Aptitude Test Preparation Guide
The NYPA Aptitude Tests measure a series of abilities that
have been shown to be essential for effective performance in various positions
in NYPA. These abilities include
perception, memory, concentration, comprehension, problem-solving, numerical
computation, and written expression. Most
test batteries are organized into five separately-timed sections. A description of each section is presented
below.

The
Perception, Memory and Concentration section contains that assess your ability
to observe and differentiate fine physical details, and attend to unusual
detail with little margin for error, possibly amid considerable distractions.

The Comprehension section contains section assesses
your ability to read, understand, interpret and apply written, verbal,
numerical, or graphic information.

The
Numerical Computation section assesses your ability to solve arithmetic and mathematical
problems including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages
and basic algebra - without a calculator.
The questions in this section will also require you to use numerical
reasoning to solve word problems.

The
Problem Solving section contains assesses your ability to solve problems and
use logical reasoning and critical thinking in uncertain situations such as
diagnosing mechanical or electrical disorders or restoration of a complex
physical system or process.

The
Written Expression section assesses your ability to demonstrate various writing
skills including spelling, report writing, sentence construction and form
completion.
This Test Preparation Guide also includes practice questions
for each section of the tests. These
practice questions will show you the various types of questions that you can
anticipate. While these practice
questions are not the same in content as those in the actual tests, they are
similar in format and in function.
