Examples of the types of questions that appear in the Written Expression section appear below.  While these are not the actual questions, in the Written Expression section, they are similar.  The answers to these questions are at the end of this section.

Answer Question 3 by reviewing the comments about a work situation.  Select the answer choice that provides a CORRECT comment about the situation. Correct comments are those that are accurate given the information provided, and that describe the situation factually, not emotionally.

 

3.      Situation:      To inspect a cable, the maintenance worker climbed a ladder.  While descending the ladder, the maintenance worker slipped and fell off the ladder.  The worker sustained several cuts and scrapes that were cleaned and bandaged.

 

         The correct comment about the situation above is:

 

                A.     Improperly descending a ladder led to several cuts.  Worker must be more careful.

                B.     Worker slipped and fell off a ladder when inspecting cable.  All cuts and scrapes were cleaned and bandaged.

        2.    A crew was dispatched to the site of a power outage following a storm.

        3.    Once they arrived, the new crew members got right to work.

        4.    Power was restored in record time to all affected customers.

        5.    It was immediately clear that more personnel would be needed to complete the restoration in a timely manner.

Answer Question 5 by reviewing written reports about work activities.  Written reports must be accurate and complete given the information provided.  Reports should also describe the situation factually, not emotionally.  You are to choose the most accurate and complete report of the four choices.

Site:               Room A

Purpose:       Troubleshoot the air-contaminant detection system

Findings:       Tested air for presence of contaminants.  Found contaminant levels to be too high.  Evacuated all persons from Room A.  Ventilated room.  Inspected the ventilation fan.  Fan was not working.  Replaced the fan motor.
